The U.S. Supreme Court ruling that allows race to be considered in college admissions will allow Delaware University campuses to continue their efforts to expand minority representation in a mostly white student body.
The Wilmington News Journal reports that in the fall of 2015 75% of the undergraduates were white.
That stands in contrast to state’s population that is 64 percent white.
The News Journal reports that earlier this year among the efforts to expand minority representation the University made SAT scores optional.
Douglas Zander, director of admissions, told the paper that this was aimed at encouraging students of color as well as low income and first generation college students to apply.
This will take effect in the next school year.
