High Cost of Curbing Dover Flooding

Don Rush

What to do about flooding in Dover.

That question has once again been raised with the recent torrent of rain that hit Delmarva on July 12 when one resident reporting a dumpster floating down the street.

Nearby Kent General Hospital’s parking lots along Governors Avenue and South Street ended up underwater.

And, the city says, without major work such flooding will happen again.

Dover City Manager Scott Koenig WBOC that the problem is that the area is a basin that covers some 600 acres.

To fix the problem he says would cost $7 to $10 million dollars and would take 3 to 5 years to complete.
