Heather Mizeur To Take Public Campaign Financing in MD Governor's Race
ANNAPOLIS, Md. (AP) - Maryland Del. Heather Mizeur says she'll participate in the state's public financing system in next year's governor's race.
Mizeur, a Montgomery County Democrat, told The Washington Post that she wants to run a grassroots campaign and remove the influence of corporate money from politics. She is proposing banning corporate contributions and donations from those who bid for state contracts.
Mizeur is badly trailing fellow Democrats Anthony Brown and Doug Gansler in fundraising.
Participating in the state's public financing system means Mizeur could qualify for $1 million in state funds if she agrees not to spend more than about $2.5 million in the primary.
Mizeur has so far reported about $380,000 in her campaign account.
