Guns To Be Allowed at Carroll County Trash Site

Don Rush

WESTMINSTER, Md. (AP) - Carroll County may soon reverse a ban on guns at the county's solid waste facilities in response to a Second Amendment group's objections.

TheCarroll County Times reports that the Board of Commissioners decided without a vote Tuesday to remove the county's 1992 prohibition on allowing people to carry firearms at facilities like the Northern Landfill in Westminster. The county attorney will create an amendment to the county code.

Second Amendment Foundation wrote the county and dozens of other Maryland jurisdictions asking for the repeal of local gun regulations. The Bellevue, Wash.-based group contends local ordinances are illegal since state gun regulations supersede them.

Commissioner Dave Roush, a Republican from Westminster, says it seems silly to prohibit firearms at solid waste facilities but no other county facilities.
