A gunman has been killed by a resource officer at a Great Mills, Maryland high school.
Authorities say the situation was quickly contained at the Great Mills High School attended by around 16-hundred students.
Parents have been told to pick up their children about at Leonardtown High School around eight miles away.
The St. Mary’s County Public Schools says that the county sheriffs were on the scene and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives has tweeted that two special agents were on their way.
Great Mills High School students joined others in the National School Walkout last Wednesday to demand tougher guns laws after the school shooting in Florida that left 17 people dead.
The shooting occurred as a gun protest march is set to take place this Saturday in Washington D.C. and other cities around the country.
Governor Larry Hogan and Representative Steny Hoyer say they are monitoring the situation.
