Grove Farm on Eastern Shore Looking for Curator

Grove Farm, dnr.state.md.us

EARLEVILLE, Md. (AP) -- A historic farm on Maryland's Eastsern Shore needs a caretake. State officials are offering a life time lease in exchange for restoring and maintaining the Grove Farm near Earleville in Cecil County.

The Department of Natural Resources is holding open houses at the farm on Saturday and again on October 13 from 10 am to 2 pm. The farm is part of the state's Resident-Curatorship Program, which matches historic properties with those interested in restoring and maintaining them.

The farm sits on 750 acres of protected farmland and woodland. The restoration will cover the Federal style main house built around 1810, carriage house, ice house, corn crib and several other buildings.

DNR officials say preference will be given to proposals from nonprofits with mission similar to the department's mission.
