DOVER, Del. (AP) - Gov. Jack Markell is nominating the number-two man in the state attorney general's office for a Superior Court judgeship.

Markell announced the nomination of Charles Butler, the chief deputy attorney general, on Monday.

The governor also is nominating Eric Davis, who currently serves as a Court of Commons Pleas judge, to fill a second Superior Court vacancy in New Castle County.

A third nomination made by Markell is for Paula Ryan to become a Family Court judge in Sussex County. Ryan currently serves as chief prosecutor for Sussex County

The nominations are subject to confirmation by the state Senate.

The two Superior Court vacancies were prompted by the retirements of two sitting judges. The Family Court vacancy was caused by the removal of Judge John Henriksen for misconduct.
