Governor Jack Markell Got Questionable Donations

Governor Jack Markell gubernatorial campaign in 2007 and 2008 got thousands of dollars in donations from an executive who pled guilty in an illegal Washington DC campaign contribution scheme.

The Wilmington News Journal reports that governor’s office says his campaign donated over $28-thosuand to five Delaware charities to account for the contributions because they may have been improper.

The scheme involved the alleged funneling of funds from the accounting firm of Thompson, Cobb, Bazilio & Associates and its CEO Jeffery Thompson through two of its employees to political campaigns.

Mike Barlow, Markell’s chief of staff, told the paper that because the contributions were so closely tied to Thompson and his firm that the governor decided to donate an equivalent amount to charity.
