Government Shutdown Hits National Parks on Delmarva

Don Rush

The government shutdown will have its effects on Delmarva.

Officials at the Assateague Island National Seashore told the Salisbury Daily Times that the park will remain accessible as possible.

The visitors center will be closed but the rest of the park should remain open unlike the shutdown of 2013.

Meanwhile, at the Blackwater National Wildlife Refuge in southern Dorchester park officials planned to allow the Wildlife Drive for photographers to open unless ordered closed.

But the National Park Service will not being provide permits or educational programs nor would it maintain roadways or restrooms.

Meanwhile, it was unclear how the shutdown will effect NASA’s Wallops Flight Facility.

A spokesman told the newspaper that 11-hundred of its employees were furloughed in the 2013 government shutdown.

The official said that the facility would update its Facebook page on its status.

The visitor’s center is normally closed Sunday and Monday.
