ANNAPOLIS, Md. (AP) - Gov.-elect Larry Hogan and leading Maryland lawmakers are starting this year's legislative session by emphasizing bipartisanship.

Hogan, a Republican who takes office next week, spoke to both chambers of the Legislature on Wednesday as lawmakers convened for their annual 90-day session.

With a Legislature controlled by Democrats, Hogan says the only way problems will be solved is if the two parties sit down together and form bipartisan solutions.

House Speaker Michael Busch, an Anne Arundel County Democrat, says lawmakers want to join Hogan in building a better economy in Maryland.

The House has a one of the largest freshman classes in decades. There are 58 new members out of 141.

Senate President Thomas V. Mike Miller, D-Calvert, is pledging to work with the new administration on behalf of the state.
