GOP Presidential Candidate Newt Gingrich Comes to Delaware

HOCKESSIN, Del. (AP) - Former Speaker of the House Newt Gingrich is making the first visit to Delaware by a candidate in this year's Republican presidential primary.

Gingrich is scheduled to appear Monday evening at a joint meeting of the northern New Castle County and western New Castle County Republican committees at the Hockessin Fire Company.

Gingrich also has planned an earlier private meeting with state GOP leaders, followed by an invitation-only afternoon reception in Wilmington.

Delaware has 17 delegates at stake in its April 24 presidential primary.

Gingrich edged former Massachusetts governor Mitt Romney by a single percentage point in a Delaware GOP straw poll back in December.
