The Delaware General Assembly has slated $5 million for a project that will allow the Delaware Coastal Airport near Georgetown to expand its runway to 6-thousand feet.

The 500 additional feet would be provided by realigning Park Avenue over a five year period.

Airport Manager Jim Hicken told WBOC that this would allow for large and heavier aircraft to use the Sussex County airport.

Meanwhile, Republican state Senator Brian Pettyjohn who was one of the main backers of the funding emphasized the economic impact of the expansion on the region.
