Funeral For OC Police Officer

SCHOOLEY'S MOUNTAIN, N.J. (AP) - Family and friends are saying goodbye to an Ocean City, Md., police officer killed when a small plane crashed into the ocean off the resort town.

Funeral services for 27-year-old Joshua Adickes of Berlin, Md., are being held Tuesday at Highlands Presbyterian Church in Schooley's Mountain, N.J. A burial will follow at Fairmount Cemetery and a reception will be held at Schooley's Mountain Fire Company.

Adickes and 43-year-old Thomas Geoghegan Jr. of Ocean City were killed June 30, when their small military-style plane crashed into the ocean shortly after taking off from the Ocean City Municipal Airport. The bodies were recovered the next day.

A viewing will be held Thursday for Geoghegan in Annapolis. A funeral is planned for Friday at Evangelical Presbyterian Church in Annapolis.

WESTMINSTER, Md. (AP) - Federal officials say a detached part on a small airplane's tail may have caused its crash in Westminster that killed the pilot.

The National Transportation Safety Board released a factual report last month on the June 15, 2012 crash at Carroll County Regional Airport. Sixty-four-year-old Henry Judkins of Rockville, who was flying the single-engine, light sport aircraft, was killed.

The Carroll County Times reports that Judkins had taken off from Frederick Municipal Airport on his way to a New York airport. The report says that Judkins radioed that the plane's elevator had become detached. A plane elevator is on the tail of the airplane and controls the pitch of the plane.

The NTSB says Judkins' plane crashed into the ground about 60 feet before reaching the runway.
