There’s a new addition to the pony herd on Assateague Island.

The wild horse Charm gave birth in September to a new foal making this the fifth so far this year.

The Assateague Alliance says the foal is likely to be named Tunkan Hoksila after a horse that died from a car crash in July.

The Salisbury Daily Times reports that the National Park Service says it wants to get the herd up to around 80 to a 100 horses.

The paper says that the Alliance is urging people stay away from the mare and her foal to give them time to recover and become part of the herd.
