Fire Sprinklers & Connector Road on Wicomico County Council Agenda

The Wicomico County council is expected to vote to extend the exemption of one-and-two family dwellings from a state mandate that requires new homes to include a fire sprinkler system.

Last year those dwellings were temporarily exempted by the council.

Wicomico County officials began talking with Worcester County leaders who also opted out of the law last year.

Many elected officials in Wicomico and Worcester counties expressed concerns that those on well water would not be able to operate the system.

Also on this week’s agenda the Council will hold a public hearing on a proposal to buy 9.6 acres from the Homestead Dairy Farm.

It’s part of the collector road project that began years ago as a way to ease congestion from Route 50 to Nanticoke Road as development increased on the west side of Salisbury.

E. S. Adkins & Company which owns the Homestead Dairy property was going to donate the land to the county.

But with economic slump they opted to sell it instead.

The three stage project is now in its second phase with workers completing the section to the road running from Route 50 to Brick Kiln Road.
