SALISBURY, Md. (AP) - Authorities say a Wicomico County Sheriff's deputy shot and killed a man during a struggle in Salisbury.

Maryland State Police said in a news release that 25-year-old Fednel Rhinvil of Salisbury was pronounced dead about 1:45 a.m. Tuesday after pulling a handgun from his pocket during a struggle with the deputy.

Troopers say Dfc. Benjamin Jones was treated and released at a hospital for a hand injury.

State Police say Jones saw two men walking on Dennis Street and tried to conduct a street interview with them.

Troopers say one of the men, Rhinvil, ran off. Authorities say Jones caught Rhinvil as he tried to scale a fence.

State Police say during the struggle, Rhinvil pulled out a handgun, and Jones shot him with his department-issued weapon.
