Farm Bureau Toughens Stand Against Solar Facilities

publicdomainpictures.net

The Maryland Farm Bureau is taking a tougher stand on the solar energy industry.

In their annual meeting in Ocean City this past week they approved a measure that opposed setting aside prime farm land for solar energy facilities.

In addition, they opposed the state exempting solar energy projects from local and county land use restrictions.

The Salisbury Daily Times reports that Eastern Shore farms have begun to object to the increasing number of solar farms which are buying up valuable agricultural land.

The paper reports that Democrats in the General Assembly may attempt to override a veto by Republican Governor Larry Hogan over a bill that would have upped the state’s goal for renewable energy.
