The legendary waterfowl wood carver Delbert “Cigar” Daisey has died at the age of 89.
He was a resident woodcarver at the Refuge Waterfowl Museum in Chincoteague where he lived.
WBOC reports that his work was best known for its functionality and artistry and was featured at the Smithsonian and seen in publications such as National Geographic.
Wood carver Roe Jerry told the television station that he learned a great deal about the craft and called Daisey a hero as a carver.
