Expanding Crime Fighting Program to Church Street Neighborhood in Salisbury

official photo

Salisbury Police Chief Barbara Duncan told a round table last night at the Government Office Building that she wants to expand a community-based effort to fight crime and help youths called “Operation East Side” to the Church Street neighborhood.

The strategy has been used in the Doverdale area in the initiative “Operation Quiet summer” and she now wants to focus on adults as well.

The Salisbury Daily Timesreports that the program is based on the High Point Model named after a town in North Carolina in which suspected offenders are given a chance to improve their lives instead of criminal charges.

Wicomico County State’s Attorney Matt Maciarello said that it includes community members becoming involved in court proceedings.

He added that walking the streets of the area helped to identify potential offenders.
