Electric Coops to Customers: Conserve Energy

Don Rush

The Delaware Electric Cooperative and Choptank Electric Cooperative are asking their customers to voluntarily limit power usage between the hours of 4 p.m. and 6 pm. today.

With temperatures heading into the mid 90’s the power companies say that they expect to be buying extra power from the market at a premium price.

That means that customers are being asked to turn off all unnecessary lights and appliances.

In addition, they should delay major appliance usage such as dishwashers, washing machines and clothes dryers as well as hot water usage.

They also recommend keeping the shades down and the thermostat up 3 degrees during those peak hours.
