Eastern Shore Writer, Up for NAACP Image Award

An Eastern Shore author has been nominated for an NAACP Image Award.

She is Vashti Harrison who is a native of Onley and a graduate of Nandua High School in 2006.

The Salisbury Daily Times reports that her children’s picture book, “Little Leaders: Bold Women in Black History” has been nominated for “Outstanding Literary Work - Children”.

The 29-year-old provides profiles of 40 black women who have had an impact on American history that covers areas such as politics, sciences and the arts among others.

It is aimed at readers ages 8 and up.

The NAACP Image Awards honor people of color in fields that range from television and music to literature and film.

There are 56 categories in all.
