Eastern Shore Lawmakers Oppose New Transportation Bill

Don Rush

Eastern shore lawmakers are worried that highway projects may be placed at the bottom of the list with legislation that was approved by the House of Delegates.

While the measure is aimed at making decisions more transparent the lawmakers have been joined by Governor Larry Hogan who opposes the legislation.

WBOC reports that Delegate Carl Anderton said that the measure has a new formula that puts the Eastern Shore projects on the “back burner”.

One concern is that the local governments will not have as much input into the priority of a project.

Meanwhile, Governor Hogan issued a statement saying that transportation improvements should be based on local communities not pressure from Annapolis.

His office said Hogan intends to veto the bill.
