DuPont Sells Paint Business

The auto paint business owned by the DuPont Company will be worth nearly $5 billion cash deal as it moves out of oil-based product.

The DuPont Performance Coatings business is being sold to The Carlyle Group with the deal expected to be finalized next year.

The company has 2,000 employees in North America with 500 Wilmington area including at DuPont’s barley Mill Plaza offices and the Experimental Station.

DuPont officials say that it’s not known what staffing plans the new owners will have once company is sold.

The paint company is best recognized through the DuPont Motorsports which is a sponsor and paint manufacturer for four-time NASCAR champion Jeff Gordon’s Number 24 race car and the longest running sponsorship of 20 years in the history of the sport.
