The Delaware Symphony Orchestra will take the stage next week at the Grand in downtown Wilmington after being off for the last eight months.
It will be the first in a three-concert classical series.
And, the January 25th concert marks the debut for concertmaster David Southorn.
The Wilmington News Journal reports that he is the orchestra’s permanent first-chair violinist a position that has been vacant for more than two years.
Among the compositions to be highlighted during the series are Beethoven’s Symphony No. 7 in A Major and Tchaikovsky’s Symphony No. 5 in E Minor.
The shortened season is part of a major restructuring of the DSO that began last summer.
At the time the orchestra was facing near financial collapse.
Among the changes are Friday night performances and Sunday matinee to attract a wider audience.
