Tomorrow is “Drug Take Back Day” in Delaware for those who want to discard unused or expired prescriptions.

People will be able to drop off the drugs as 21 designated locations ranging from drug stores and law enforcement offices to medical centers.

They may be dropped off between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m.

The program is offered twice a year and is sponsored by the Drug Enforcement Administration and the Delaware Department of Health and Social Services.

State health officials say there were 308 fatal overdoses last year and that prescription drugs were found to be involved in 80% of them.

DHSS Secretary Kara Walker told WBOC that the Take Back Day is just one of the ways the state is trying to combat the rising opioid addiction and overdose problem.

Last night officials kicked off the Worcester County Warriors meeting with Senator Jim Mathias telling the gathering that officials are going to do their best to beat the rising rate of drug addiction and overdose.

The Eastern Shore Democrat praised the work of Clay Stamp who has been appointed by Governor Larry Hogan to fight the heroin and opioid crisis.

WBOC reports that Stamp said that the Governor’s state of emergency called for the mobilization of all Marylanders on this issue.

The founder of the Worcester County Warriors Heidi McNealy said efforts were needed more than ever after 20 overdoses in Sussex County in one weekend.
