BOWERS BEACH, Del. (AP) - State officials say a dredging project on the Murderkill River will help improve navigation for boaters and contribute to beach restoration as well.
The project involves dredging about 45,000 cubic yards of material from the federal navigation channel in the river.
Some of the dredged material will be used to widen the beach at South Bowers.
Officials say the beach widening will help protect homes, infrastructure and habitat from the effects of coastal storms.
Gov. Jack Markell and state environmental secretary Collin O'Mara planned to tour the area Monday to get a firsthand look at the dredging project.
