Dream Act Unveiled in Delaware

Delaware lawmakers will get a chance to weigh in on – what’s been called – The Dream Act.

The legislation would give children of undocumented immigrants living in the state a chance to get in-state college tuition rates…and become eligible for state scholarships.

State Senator Robert Marshall unveiled the legislation yesterday  saying that children brought here illegally should get the same access to higher education as legal residents.

Under the measure students, who have been attending a high school in Delaware for the previous three years, have no felony convictions…and meet residency requirements would be eligible.

But…the Wilmington News Journal reports that the University of Delaware and Delaware Technical Community College already allow undocumented students to access in-state tuition and state-funded scholarships.

The National Conference of State Legislatures says there are 13 states including Maryland that have passed similar legislation.
