Downtown Ellicott City Reopens After Flood

ELLICOTT CITY, Md. (AP) - A portion of Ellicott City's Main Street is re-opening after flooding last month.

Howard County officials said in a statement that beginning Wednesday a portion of the western end of Main Street that sustained minor or no damage in the July 30 flooding will be re-opened. Businesses at the western end of the street and along Tonge Row will be able to to re-open.

Howard County Executive Allan H. Kittleman is asking people who don't have business in the area not to "come just to gawk or sightsee." Kittleman says Main Street remains a major construction site.

A Howard County company is offering free data recovery to Ellicott City businesses affected by last month's flooding.

Rep. C.A. Dutch Ruppersberger visited Atlantic Data Forensics yesterday in Elkridge, where the company is located.

Employees demonstrated how they can recover data from a computer destroyed by flooding. The company already has helped a number of businesses recover data from computers whose owners thought was lost.

Nearly six inches of rain fell in a few hours on July 30. the flooding killed two people and devastated the historic district of Ellicott city. Dozens of buildings were damaged.
