The mayor of Dover may be getting more involved in the day-to-day activities of the city.

During a Monday meeting of city officials council member Bill Hare proposed requiring that the city departments report to the city manager who would then report to the Mayor’s office.

But the city manager’s job would still be under the city council.

The vote for the plan was 5-to-2.

It’s not clear if this will be the final configuration but council member Beverly Williams said that that this puts everyone on notice that the council believes there is a need to change the form of government.

Council member Timothy Slavin voted against the proposal saying that they would be changing one hybrid form of government for another.

Dover now has a full-time mayor who is in charge of economic development and has the police department under him.

The vote on changing the form of government comes just weeks before the nest mayoral election.
