Dover Air Force Base Spare Budget Axe

Delaware appears to have been spared the budget axe in Washington.

The President’s budget proposal does not suggest any cuts in aircraft or units…and calls for spending a modest amount for construction on Dover Air Force base family housing.

In addition…the Wilmington News Journal reports…that there should be money for an Army National Guard training facility in Bethany beach.

However, the paper notes that unit-by-unit numbers were not included in the Air Force budget…and appears to remain stable as announced last month.

Major general Frank Vavala…Delaware’s adjutant general…believes the state will be forced to share the pain of a nationwide cut…of nearly 10-thousand active…guard and Reserve airmen over the next year.

In November…the Air Force said it would trim 9-thousand civilian jobs nationwide…with 40 of them in Dover.
