Dogs From Safe Haven Shelter Euthanized

Safe Haven logo

As the Safe Haven Animal Sanctuary prepares for closure at the end of the month some of the dogs under its care were euthanized because they were unsuitable for adoption.

The shelter has always been critical of the practice of euthanizing ill-tempered dogs as inhumane.

The Wilmington News Journal reports that animal rescue groups which had been getting dogs from Safe haven said the shelter suddenly rebuffed them yesterday and saw staff from the ASPCA moving the dogs out of its shelter to a building on the outskirts of Georgetown.

Emily Schneider with the ASPCA told the News Journal that her organization evaluated the behavior of the dogs and placement options.

She added that Safe Haven was responsible for the ultimate outcome of each animal.
