DMV Fee Hikes to Pay for Delaware Highway Improvements

DelDOT website

A committee in the Delaware House of Representatives has given its okay to increase  DMV fees to provide more money for improving the state’s roads and bridges.

Democrats are looking to get another $23.9 million to put into the Highway Trust Fund.

The Wilmington News Journal reports that would be matched by new infrastructure loans.

Among the increases are hikes for duplicate driver’s license and titles.

In addition, the fee for vehicle transfers would go up from 3.75 percent to 4.45 percent.

Officials hope that will raise $12.5 million a year.

But there is opposition from car dealers.
