Disciplanary Trials for Baltimore Police in Freddie Gray Death

cell phone video

BALTIMORE (AP) - Disciplinary trials for five Baltimore officers charged in the death of a 25-year-old man are scheduled to begin next month.

The Baltimore Sun reports that the trial for Officer Caesar Goodson will begin Oct. 30, followed by trials for Lt. Brian Rice, Sgt. Alicia White and officers Garrett Miller and Edward Nero.

The trials, which are open to the public, come after these officers and a sixth, William Porter, were criminally charged in the death of Freddie Gray, whose neck was broken while he was handcuffed and shackled in a police transport van. Three of the officers were acquitted at trial, and prosecutors dropped the remaining cases.

Gray's death inspired protests and gave way to rioting in Baltimore.

Each trial is scheduled for two days or more.
