Dewey Beach Town Council Gets Earful From Local Residents

The decisions did not seem controversial but the Dewey Beach Town Council got some flak from local residents during a Saturday morning meeting.

Mayor Diane Hanson recently signed a contingency contract to buy two pieces of land along coastal highway adjacent to the city hall.

But some homeowners said they were not happy with the use of public funds without a public hearing after an article appeared in the Cape Gazette.

Meanwhile, WBOC also reports a second story by the paper found residents upset at a request by the police department for a budget increase that puts its spending over a million dollars.

That’s a 7.3 percent increase over the current budget.

The department said that some of the extra funds were marked for additional officers for the summer as well as needed upgrades to its facilities and equipment.
