Delmarvans In For More Heat

It’s a second day of the teat index hitting nearly 110.

And there’s a heat advisory for the weekend.

WHAT DO TO

Residents are urged to stay in-doors with adequate air conditioning and avoid outdoor activities.

Hospitals are expected to see people with such ailments as heat rash heat exhaustion and heat cramps.

Drink plenty of water and know the signs of heat related illnesses.

These include dry red skin, convulsions, disorientation, delirium and coma.

Heatstroke is treated by rapidly lowering the body temperature by a cool bath or wet towels.

A heatstroke victim should be kept in a cool area; emergency medical care should be obtained by dialing 911.

COOLING STATIONS

For those seeking relief from the heat there are a number of cooling stations around Delmarva.

In Wicomico County the Youth and Civic Center and the MAC Senior Center will be open today and the weekend.

In Somerset County the libraries will be open for those seek relief in Princess Anne and Crisfield.

In Worcester County all five libraries will be open today and Saturday.

Snow Hill and Pocomoke branches which will close at 5 pm.

Ocean City Berlin and Ocean Pines will close at 6 pm.

On Saturday the libraries will be open from 9 am to 5 pm.

The Worcester County Recreation Center in Snow Hill will be open and will offer special programs including those for families with children today and Saturday.  

Today and tomorrow the Charles and Martha Fulton Senior Center in Snow Hill will be open through 6 pm.

In Sussex County the three library branches in Bethany Beach, Milton and Greenwood and the Northern Worcester County Senior Center in Berlin  will also be open.

County Administrative building will also be open.
