Schools up and down Delmarva joined the national walkout that marked the one month anniversary of the Florida high school shooting that left 17 dead.

Students at Wicomico High School walked out at 10 a.m. for 17 minutes that reflected the number of those killed at the Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in February.

A Senior Elisa Wilson told WBOC that everyone at the school took the demonstration seriously.

Others suggested that the walkout was not really solving the problem.

Meanwhile, at the Stephen Decatur High School in Worcester County students sat silently outside their classrooms to remember the victims of the Florida shooting.

School officials believe 90 percent of the student body participated in the walkout.

The television station reports that discussions about school safety continued with Worcester County school officials after the school day ended.

Hundreds of students walked out at Cape Henlopen High School.

One student read a statement declaring that no child should be afraid to go to school ending with the words “Never again. Enough is Enough”.

The walkout went peacefully as students entered the football field in a single file.

WBOC reports that police and teachers were on hand but that the walkout was supervised by the students.

Earlier this week district Superintendent Bob Fulton issued a statement saying that the walkout was not endorsed by school authorities but was allowed to proceed minimize classroom disruption.
