Delmarva Celebrates Veterans Day

In Salisbury local officials gathered at the Wicomico Youth and Civic Center for a ceremony honoring Veterans Day complete with patriotic music played and sung by students from Mardela High School.

The JROTC was on hand for the lowering of the colors.

Vietnam Veteran Donald Fitzgerald told the WBOC that when he returned from overseas it was a different time with little recognition of his service.

Fitzgerald served with is cousin who died in 1966 in Vietnam while serving in the Marine Corp.

He told the television station that the service at the Center was a special event for his family.

Delaware

In Delaware officials ranging from Governor Jack Markell to Senator Tom Carper took part yesterday in ceremonies honoring Veterans Day.

The Wilmington News Journal reports that state officials also attended a special event at Delaware Technical Community College with a breakfast to honor women who served in the military.

In Dover, a memorial for those who went to the Middle East will be added to the Kent County Veterans Memorial Park.

Meanwhile, at the Memorial Plaza near the Delaware Memorial Bridge the Delaware National Guard along with Representative John Carney was also on hand for a Veterans Day event.

The News Journal reports that the National Veterans Day Committee in Washington D.C .has designated the New Castle location as one of 50 regional sites
