Delmarva Braces for Snow Storm (Update)

all-free-download.com

The snow is coming.

And Delmarvans are hunkering down with the National Weather Service issuing a winter storm warning until 6 a.m. tomorrow.

At the moment…officials expect a snow accumulation of 4-10 inches especially in Delaware making some roads impassable.

There’s also a wind child advisory for Kent, Sussex, Queen Anne’s and Talbot Counties from 1 to 11 am tomorrow.

Wind child value could reach minus 10…which can cause frostbite and even hypothermia.

On the Lower Shore winds could reach up to 25 mph with gusts as high as 45 mph.

And…Charlie Gishlar…with the Maryland State Highway Administration…tells motorist it’s time to get off the roads.

“If you can get what you need to get done now, early before it really starts, that would be a benefit for you, he said. “Because when it gets out there later, driving conditions might get a little treacherous, as because not only will we have heavy bands of snow, a high wind component to this, so you going to have blowing snow as well – particularly in the rural areas.”

State and local work crews have been out treating the roads.

And in Sussex County around 10 streets have been designated emergency routes so motorists should keep their vehicles clear of these highways.

Officials have also issued a wind warning for the Bay Bridge which means motorist will still be able to cross but must use caution.

Delaware Road Treatment

DOVER, Del. (AP) - Transportation officials in Delaware are pre-treating roadways in anticipation of a snowstorm that is moving into the area Tuesday.

The Delaware Department of Transportation said Monday it began pre-treating roadways with a salt and water mixture ahead of the storm. The mixture slows or prevents any accumulation of snow or ice on bridges and roadways.

Officials say motorists should drive carefully and allow extra travel time during the day Tuesday because of the snow. The National Weather Service says the state could see snow accumulations of five to nine inches in certain areas.
