DelDOT Wants $471 Million For Toll Road

The Delaware Department of Transportation wants lawmakers to approve $471 million for a toll road to replace US 301 in southern New Castle.

The first 14 mile segment would connect the four-lane US 301 at the state line southwest of Middletown to Delaware Route 1 at the Roth Bridge.

The Wilmington News Journal reports that DelDOT Secretary Shailen Bhatt told the Bond Bill Committee yesterday there were a number of factors in the decision to move ahead with the project.

She pointed to lower bond interest rates and lower construction costs.

The Department had put off construction because the recession had put a drag on projected traffic flows while officials feared potential losses at Delaware’s I-95 toll booths
