DelDOT Scuttles Black Pearl in Fenwick Island

The Black Pearl has been sidelined by the Delaware Department of Transportation.

It’s a free drunk bus that has been shuttling inebriated bar patrons.

In January Bill Fox began the service for the Fenwick Island-area bar guests after seeing many drunken drivers getting behind the wheel.

So what’s the problem?

DelDOT says that because he accepts tips the bus falls under the same regulations as a limousine driver even if he is not technically charging any fees to the passengers.

Fox told the Wilmington News Journal the he was just trying to help out bar owners with their liability to get the patrons home safely.

And he has been working with many of the establishments on Route 54 including Fenwick Wine Cellars, Smitty McGee’s and Hawaiian Crab.
