NEWARK, Del. (AP) - A former University of Delaware athlete will be competing in this summer's Olympic Games.
Former University of Delaware women's basketball player Elena Delle Donne was named earlier this week to the U.S. women's basketball team that will play at the Olympics in Rio this summer. Delle Donne, the reigning WNBA MVP, played at Delaware from 2009 to 2013. She is a native of Wilmington, Delaware.
The school said in a statement that Delle Donne is the first University of Delaware athlete to compete in the?Olympic Games for the United States.
Delle Donne will be back on campus Sunday with her Chicago Sky teammates to play in an exhibition game against the New York Liberty.
