Governor Jack Markell delivered his seventh State of the State address yesterday hailing the economic progress in the First State.
But he called on lawmakers to help him close a $780 million spending gap in meeting the state’s transportation needs.
In addition, he focused on issues ranging from ways to improve education and to end veteran homelessness to dealing with substance abuse.
The Wilmington News Journal reports that the address was well received by lawmakers.
State Senator Margaret Rose Henry told the paper that it was one of the best that she has heard.
The Wilmington Democrat is co-sponsor of a joint resolution to establish a commission to study crime in her city that would including the deployment of police officers and collecting crime data.
Perdue
Around 150 jobs at Perdue will be moving from Salisbury to Sussex County.
During his State of the State address Governor Jack Markell said that company was still committed to moving the support and management jobs from the Zion Church Road facility to a new location in Sussex County.
Perdue spokeswoman Julie de Young told the Salisbury Daily Times that a specific site has not been located and the process would probably take around two years.
But she added that it was still the desire of the company to move its operations even with the many delays.
DeYoung added All other operations at the Zion Church location such as the grain and feed would still remain in Salisbury.
