Delaware State Police Sexual Harassment Claim Rejected by Jury

A Superior Court jury rejected a sexual harassment claim by former Delaware State Police employee Diana Miller.

Miller alleged that she had been coerced into having sex by her superior during her time at Troop 2.

Captain John Laird who was accused of the harassment retired in 2007 shortly after Miller first made her accusations.

The Deputy Attorney General Michael McTaggart told the jury that the relationship was consensual.

The Wilmington News Journal reports that he also noted Miller only made her claims after learning that she was the subject of an internal investigation.

Miller’s attorney in his closing arguments told the jury that his client felt trapped by Laird and that the state police were simply taking care of one of their own.

For his part Laird said that he considered the verdict “vindication.”
