There’s been a big turnaround for special education in Delaware.

It has now been given the highest rating possible from the U.S. Department of Education.

But it was only three years ago that the First State was told the program need intervention.

Secretary of Education Susan Bunting told the Wilmington News Journal that she was proud of the progress that the state has made.

She added it was a collective effort led by the school districts and charter schools.

In addition, the state had completed a program that focuses on improving literacy for grades K-through-3 that included students with disabilities and English learners.

In the previous two years Delaware got the second highest ranking which still said it needs assistance.
