Delaware School Board Votes Opposition to Anti-Discrimination Regulation

creative commons

Parents were out in force during an Indian River Board of Education meeting on Monday to protest a proposed regulation to allow students to choose their own gender.

The Wilmington News Journal reports that many wore red to show their opposition to the proposal.

The state regulation would require schools to include language that allows students to sue bathrooms and locker rooms that corresponds to their chosen gender.

The new regulation would also allow a student to choose their own name and race.

The News Journal reports that parents say their opposition is not about LGBTQ rights but rather about the school usurping their authority over their children.

But the Gay, Lesbian and Straight Education Network based in New York said that these regulations were extreme important for students.

School Board voted against the regulation nd sent a letter to Delaware authorities with their complaints about the measure.
