There could be a grand jury indictment within the next 90 days in the uprising and death of a prison guard at the James T. Correctional Center near Smyrna.
That’s the word from the Delaware Attorney General’s office.
The Wilmington News Journal reports officials added that the investigation poses a number of unique issues including the fact that most of the witnesses are inmates.
The uprising involved 120 prisoners from Building C.
Both the Correctional Officers Association of Delaware and Governor John Carney have expressed concern over the delay.
During the standoff Officer Steven Floyd was killed while three other officers were taken hostage.
A recently released report pointed to a prison system that was in crisis with a lack of programs for inmates, the mixing of gang members inside the building and an us-veres-them mentality between frontline employees and officials.
