Delaware Primary Voters Could Decide Fate of Gingrich Campaign

WILMINGTON, Del. (AP) - Newt Gingrich's longshot bid for the Republican presidential nomination brought him back to Delaware on the eve of the state's presidential primary.

Gingrich spoke Monday night at a meeting of the Brandywine-Wilmington Regional GOP Committee, shortly after Republican National Committeewoman Priscilla Rakestraw announced that she was switching her endorsement from front-runner Mitt Romney to Gingrich, becoming the second GOP official in Delaware to do so.

Gingrich has made several stops in Delaware in recent weeks, hoping that retail politicking will result in an upset victory over front-runner Mitt Romney, and provide momentum as he heads to North Carolina and other states.

Republican State Sen. Colin Bonini of Dover presented Gingrich with a Delaware flag and said he and other Republicans would try to deliver the state for him.
