Delaware National Guard Leader Warns of Impact from Budget Cuts

Official photo

Major General Frank Vavala says he’s worried that the recent spending cutbacks by the federal government are going to damage the ability of the Delaware National Guard to respond to the nation’s security needs.

The Pentagon is now facing a loss of nearly a half a billion dollars over the next decade.

During the annual meeting of the National Guard Association of Delaware had this warning for the audience, “Remember 9/11?“

In its aftermath the Reserves became a key component in manning the military operations abroad in Afghanistan and Iraq.

The Wilmington News Journalreports that Vavala said that the Pentagon had spent $12 million to prepare the reserves for those kinds of operations…and now those same troops are being “off-ramped.”
