NEWARK, Del. (AP) - A group of medical professionals from Delaware are planning a trip to a Caribbean island to provide care in the wake of Hurricane Maria.
Dr. Reynold Agard, a Newark internist and president of the Delaware Medical Relief Team, tells The News Journal he hopes more than 100 doctors, surgeons, nurses and pharmacists will participate.
The medical workers will head to the hard-hit island of Dominica. It was one of the first Caribbean islands to be hit by the storm.
Agard says he plans on sending small groups to the island two weeks at a time starting as soon as Oct. 2.
At least 31 lives in all have been lost around the Caribbean due to Maria, including at least 15 on Dominica.
