Delaware Looks Ahead to Aging Population

Don Rush

Governor Jack Markell told a Delaware panel on aging that the First State is facing a silver tsunami when it comes to health care for senior citizens.

The Governor’s remarks came during a meeting of the Imagine Delaware Panel on aging yesterday sponsored by PNC Bank and the Wilmington News Journal.

Markell said that the existing system is not sustainable.

PNC’s regional President Nicholas Marsini said the aging of the baby boom generation not only creates new challenges for the health care system but also the economy and workforce as well.

The Wilmington News Journal reports that by 2030 Delaware will be the ninth grayest in the nation with retirees flooding into the state looking for affordable housing low cost living and a moderate climate.
